Andrea Purgatori (Rome, 1953) is a journalist, novelist and screenplay writer. He has been war correspondent in the Middle East for Corriere della Sera for twenty years. On top of writing successful scripts for cinema and TV, monologues for theatre, non-fictional essays and of being the host of reportage and television programs (currently hosting the TV program Altlantide on La7), he also teaches screenwriting at the two most prestigious Film and Theatre Academies in Italy. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Italian Film Academy and of the European Film Academy. Furthermore, he represents Italian Film Authors as a member of the board of SIAE.
His scripts for Cinema and TV awarded him 3 wins (Italian Golden Globe, Nastro d’Argento, Fipa) and 8 nominations along with the the Elsa Morante Cinema Award and the Sergio Amidei International Award for best screenplay. Several of his works have taken part in the official selection of world film festivals such as the Venice Film Festival, the Berlin Film Festival, the Rome Film Festival, the Biarritz, the Montecarlo and the Shangai Film Festivals.
