W&DW celebrates historic vote in Europe for creators
Today, Europe affirmed its leadership in authors’ rights in a historic vote in European Parliament. Adopting the Directive on Copyright in the Digital Single Market establishes a new norm that recognises the essential, central role of creators in works enjoyed by all. It affirms the proportionate remuneration right for screenwriters and directors, which is a legislative keystone for all those who work in the audiovisual sector.
W&DW thanks Members of European Parliament who voted positively who are on our side in support of authors, creativity and culture. The world has been watching, evident by our presence here in the Russian Federation today for the W&DW annual congress. We are strongly encouraged by Europe’s actions that more change is possible elsewhere in the world.
