Writers & Directors Worldwide Launch "The Mexico Manifesto"
Following its annual general meeting in Mexico on the 8th October 2014, Writers & Directors Worldwide has launched a clear call to action in a globally circulated document titled "The Mexico Manifesto".
In this document, the organisation details the cultural and economic contribution that creators in this repertoire make and clarifies precisely how the ability to continue this work is in jeopardy. The manifesto ends with clear guidance for how decision makers can address and correct this issue:
We call on national governments and law makers to adopt copyright legislation that provides writers and directors with an unwaivable right to remuneration that is compulsorily negotiated with users of these works and managed on a collective basis
